The Sanctuary of La Verna attracts pilgrims from all over the world. The mystical nature of La Verna’s uncultivated forest makes it easy to see why St Francis prized this location for meditation and prayer. Pilgrims have the opportunity to sleep at the monastery, or continue on to the nearby Chiusi della Verna.
Consider breaking up stage 6 about half way to stay in Santicchio or Biforco. Then stay at the monastery the next night. Contact La Verna Monastery at least one day before arrival to arrange a stay at the Foresteria.
Stage 5 Accommodations
La Verna’s daily procession tops the list of “must do’s” for most pilgrims. Join the friars at 3pm for the walk from the church to the Chapel of the Stigmata, where St Francis is said to have experienced the Stigmata. Friars have led the procession ever day since 1431.
