Badia Prataglia offers pilgrims a welcome break, as it’s only about 8 km from the start of Stage 5. The town serves national park visitors year-long. Pilgrims will arrive early in the day, making it possible to eat both lunch and dinner in town.
Book your stay on day of hike or night before. Note: Rifugio Casanova is only open on Weekends. Consider this alternative: Walk further to Rifugio Casa Santicchio and getting a jump-start on Stage 6.

In the center of Badia Prataglia, pilgrims are invited to visit Italy’s oldest Arboretum, Museo Forestale e Arboreto “Carlo Siemoni”. The site was created by Bohemian forest engineer Carlo Siemoni in the mid-1800s as an experiment to acclimatize exotic and native forest species.
It features 139 species of trees from all over the world, including giant sequoias, Spanish fir, cryptomeria from Japan.
